“Detoxes” Doctors Secretly Hate (And Why Your Body Doesn’t Need Them)

Dear health-conscious friends,

Every January—and frankly, every Monday—“detox” trends explode.

Juice cleanses. Charcoal drinks. “Liver flushes.” Teas that promise to “reset” your system.

As a doctor, I’ll let you in on a little secret:

Your body is already detoxing you. Constantly. For free.

And some of these popular “detoxes” don’t just fail—they can actually harm you.

Let’s break down the biggest offenders 👇

🚫 1. Juice Cleanses

They sound healthy. Green juices, vitamins, “clean eating.”

But here’s the problem:
You’re removing fibre, protein, and fat—three things your body needs to function properly.

What you get instead:

  • Blood sugar spikes
  • Energy crashes
  • Hunger and irritability

Your liver isn’t “resetting.”
You’re just underfeeding yourself.

🚫 2. Activated Charcoal Drinks

These are often marketed as “toxin binders.”

In reality, activated charcoal is used in hospitals for poisoning—not wellness.

And here’s the danger:
It doesn’t just bind toxins.

It can also bind:

  • Medications (like antidepressants or contraceptives)
  • Nutrients your body needs

Meaning you could accidentally reduce the effectiveness of your treatment.

🚫 3. “Liver Flushes”

These often involve oil, lemon juice, and sometimes Epsom salts.

They claim to remove “gallstones” or “toxins.”

What’s actually happening?

Those little green “stones” people proudly show?
They’re usually just congealed oil from the cleanse itself.

Your liver doesn’t need flushing.
If it did, you’d be in hospital—not on Instagram.

🚫 4. Detox Teas & Laxatives

These are some of the worst offenders.

Many contain stimulant laxatives.

Yes, you may feel “lighter.”
But that’s because you’re losing water and electrolytes—not toxins.

Potential risks include:

  • Dehydration
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Gut irritation

Not exactly the glowing wellness promised.

🧠 So… How Does Detox Actually Work?

Your body relies on three main systems:

  • Liver → breaks down toxins
  • Kidneys → filter waste into urine
  • Gut → eliminates what’s not needed

If these are working, you are detoxing 24/7.

If they’re not working…
No tea or juice is going to fix that.

✅ What Doctors Actually Recommend

Instead of extreme “detoxes,” focus on what supports your natural systems:

  • Drink enough water
  • Eat fibre-rich foods (vegetables, whole grains)
  • Get adequate protein
  • Sleep properly
  • Limit alcohol

Not glamorous.
But medically sound.

⚠️ The Bottom Line

Most detox products sell you a problem you don’t have—
and a solution you don’t need.

Your body is not “toxic.”
It’s incredibly efficient.

Treat it well, and it will do the rest.

Dear gorgeous readers, When we imagine war across galaxies, we think of ships blazing across the sky, lasers tearing through silence, and commanders shouting orders from steel bridges. But that’s not where most of the story happens. It happens in kitchens with empty shelves. In whispered trades behind locked doors. And deep underground… where civilians learn how to survive. When the Food Runs Out A planetary siege doesn’t begin with explosions. It begins with interruption. Supply chains...
